A Jeep headlight can look like the right size and still be the wrong upgrade. The mounting ring may not seat. The connector may need an adapter. A weak low beam can scatter light, and the halo may need extra wiring.
Start with your Jeep generation. Then check the original lamp, connector, beam pattern and road-use documents for that exact headlight. The chart and product picks below cover CJ, YJ, XJ, TJ, JK, JL and Gladiator JT models.
Wrangler YJ and Cherokee XJ models use 5×7-inch rectangular headlights. CJ, TJ, LJ, JK and JKU models commonly use 7-inch round lamps. Wrangler JL, JLU and Gladiator JT use 9-inch round assemblies. Stay with the Jeep’s native size for the easiest installation. Then confirm the connector, mounting depth, lighting functions, traffic direction and exact product documents.

Jeep LED Headlight Sizes at a Glance
The vehicle code gives you the fastest starting point. If you are unsure whether your Jeep is a TJ, JK, JL or another platform, use the Jeep model code guide before comparing headlights.

Choose the Beam Before the Lumen Number
A large lumen claim does not tell you where the light goes. On a dark road, the low beam should cover the lane and shoulder. It should not throw stray light into approaching drivers’ eyes. On high beam, you need useful distance without a bright foreground that hides the road beyond it.
Look for these four signs in a wall test or road test:
- A defined low-beam cutoff: the upper edge should be controlled rather than hazy or scattered.
- Even road coverage: useful light should fill the lane without dark holes or a single harsh hot spot.
- Balanced width and distance: the beam should show the shoulder while still reaching far enough ahead.
- A repeatable left and right pair: both lamps should produce matching patterns when aimed at the same height.
For daily driving, choose the better beam pattern even when another model advertises more lumens. Optical control determines whether the output helps you see or simply creates glare.

Projector, Reflector, Halo or RGB?
These labels describe different parts of the headlight. Projector and reflector refer to the optics. Halo and RGB refer to an accent or daytime-running-light feature. A headlight can use projector optics and still include a halo ring.
| Type | What You Get | Best Use |
|---|---|---|
| Projector LED | Focused optics that can produce a precise cutoff and concentrated beam when engineered correctly | Frequent night driving and buyers who place beam control first |
| Reflector LED | A simpler optical layout that can provide broad, useful coverage at a lower price | Daily use and value-focused upgrades |
| White or amber halo | A visible ring used as an accent, DRL or turn signal when the product and wiring support that function | A clean custom look with practical white or amber functions |
| RGB or RGBW halo | App- or controller-operated color effects around a separate white high/low beam | Show vehicles, events and off-road display modes |
| Heated lens | A heating element designed to reduce snow and ice buildup on the lens | Regions where winter buildup is a regular driving problem |
Best all-around choice: a road-ready projector or well-engineered reflector assembly with a controlled low beam. Add a white/amber halo if you want the look and have the correct wiring. Choose RGB when color is part of the build. Keep the road beam white and follow local rules for colored accent lighting.
For color-changing options, read the RGB headlights for Jeep Wrangler guide before choosing the controller and wiring layout.
Five Fitment Checks Before You Buy
Confirm the Jeep Code and Model Year
“Wrangler headlight” is not enough. State CJ, YJ, TJ, LJ, JK, JKU, JL or JLU, then add the model year. For a Gladiator, state JT and the year.
Photograph the Original Lamp and Connector
Send one front photo, one rear photo and one clear connector photo. For JL/JT applications, also state whether the Jeep left the factory with halogen or LED headlights.
Check the Bucket, Bracket and Rear Depth
The face diameter can match while the heat sink, driver box or connector interferes behind the lamp. Confirm depth and retaining-ring clearance before you approve the sample.
List Every Lighting Function
High beam and low beam are only the start. State whether you need a white DRL, amber turn signal, halo, position light or RGB function, and ask where each wire connects.
Confirm the Driving Market
A lamp for right-hand traffic needs a different low-beam distribution from a lamp for left-hand traffic. Give the destination country before the supplier selects the version.
Size is only the first check. Match the Jeep generation, original lighting package, connector, mounting parts, requested functions, traffic direction and exact product code before you approve the order.
What About H4, H13 and Anti-Flicker Adapters?
Older sealed-beam and H4-style applications often use a three-prong connection. Wrangler JK models commonly need an H13-to-H4 adapter when the new headlight uses an H4-style plug. Some JK conversions also need an anti-flicker harness or decoder. The Jeep’s pulsed power can make an LED driver flash or shut down.
Use only the adapter or decoder listed for the exact headlight and Jeep. An extra connection can introduce a fault, while the wrong decoder may not solve the flicker.
DOT and E-Mark: Check the Exact Headlight
In the United States, original and replacement headlamps are covered by FMVSS No. 108. Manufacturers self-certify compliance. NHTSA does not pre-approve each aftermarket headlight. A “DOT approved” sentence on a listing is not the end of your check.
For UNECE markets, road-illumination devices may be approved under UN Regulation No. 149 and related installation rules. The approval number, lamp category, traffic direction and exact model must match the product you will use or import.
Before you buy: match the product code and physical marking to the supporting document. The same document must cover the beam and destination market you need. A factory certificate or paperwork for a similar lamp is not enough.
| Check | What Must Match | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Product identity | Part number, lamp photo and market version | Exact match required |
| Lens or housing mark | Readable marking on the sample and production lamp | Compare with the document |
| Beam coverage | High beam, low beam and traffic direction covered by the test or approval | Reject a different beam version |
| Extra functions | DRL, turn signal or position-light claims for the intended market | Verify separately |
Installation and Aiming
Most complete Jeep LED headlight swaps follow the same basic steps. The grille, retaining ring, bracket and harness differ by generation. Read the vehicle and product instructions before removing parts.
Park Safely and Disconnect Power
Use a level surface, switch off the lights and ignition, and disconnect the battery when the product instructions call for it.
Remove the Grille or Headlight Trim
Release the clips or screws for your Jeep generation without forcing painted or plastic parts.
Remove the Retaining Hardware
Support the lamp while removing the retaining ring or bracket. Do not change the aiming screws unless the design requires it.
Connect and Test Every Function
Test low beam, high beam, DRL, turn signal and halo before reinstalling the grille. Correct flicker or reversed functions at this stage.
Seat the Lamp and Aim the Pair
Secure the wiring away from sharp or hot parts, reinstall the lamp, then aim both sides on level ground.
Once the lamps turn on, check the aim. A high low-beam cutoff can glare at other drivers even when the optics are good. Follow the vehicle and headlight instructions, then use the Jeep LED headlight aiming guide for the wall setup and adjustment steps.
Common Problems After Installation
| Problem | Likely Cause | What You Should Do |
|---|---|---|
| Flicker or lamp shuts off | Vehicle power signal and LED driver are not working together | Use the headlight’s specified anti-flicker harness or decoder and recheck grounds. |
| High and low beam reversed | Connector pinout or adapter orientation does not match | Stop using the lamp until the correct adapter or pinout is confirmed. |
| Halo or DRL does not work | The main plug carries high/low beam only | Connect the separate DRL or turn-signal lead according to the supplied diagram. |
| Beam is bright but hard to use | Poor optical control or incorrect aim | Aim the lamps first. Replace them if the pattern remains scattered or uneven. |
| Lamp will not sit flat | Rear depth, retaining ring, bracket or spacer is wrong | Stop and compare the mounting parts with the approved fitment list. |
| Moisture remains inside | Seal damage, blocked vent or water entry | Check the housing, connector seal and vent. Replace a lamp with standing water or repeated heavy condensation. |
What Dealers and Importers Should Check on a Sample
If you sell Jeep lighting, a sample should prove more than appearance. Install it on the exact Jeep application and check the functions your customers will use. A five-minute bench video cannot reveal a weak bracket, an uneven pair or a connector that sits under tension after the grille is fitted.
- Fitment: grille clearance, mounting ring, rear depth, bracket position and connector lock.
- Lighting: high beam, low beam, cutoff, left/right consistency, DRL, turn signal and halo.
- Electronics: start-up behavior, flicker, dashboard warning, radio interference and heat after operation.
- Sealing: lens bond, vent design, connector seal and the exact waterproof test used for that model.
- Documents: product code, markings, applicable report or approval and destination market.
- Packaging: pair protection, adapters, brackets, instructions, labels and spare-part identification.
LOYO has developed automotive and off-road lighting since 2006. Our team supports Jeep headlight projects with fitment review, optical and electrical checks, sample confirmation, packaging and bulk-order control. Production follows ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949 quality systems. Product documents are checked by exact model.
For a wholesale or private-label order, send the Jeep code, year range, destination market, original connector photos, required functions, target quantity and packaging needs. That information lets the factory select an existing model or identify what must change before sampling.
Frequently Asked Questions
What size LED headlights fit a Jeep Wrangler JK?
Jeep Wrangler JK and JKU models from 2007–2018 commonly use 7-inch round headlights. Many LED replacements use an H4-style plug and include an H13-to-H4 adapter for the JK. Confirm the exact product, original connector and anti-flicker requirement before ordering.
What size headlights fit a Jeep Wrangler JL or Gladiator JT?
Wrangler JL/JLU models from 2018 onward and Gladiator JT models from 2020 onward commonly use 9-inch round headlight assemblies. A native 9-inch replacement is the simplest choice. A 7-inch lamp can be used only with the correct conversion bracket, spacer and wiring.
Do Jeep YJ and Cherokee XJ use the same headlight size?
Wrangler YJ and Cherokee XJ models commonly use the 5×7-inch rectangular sealed-beam format, also called 7×6 or H6054. The size may match, but you should still confirm rear depth, connector orientation and any extra DRL or turn-signal wiring.
Are Jeep LED headlights plug and play?
Some are, but plug and play should include the full installation, not just the main beam plug. A JK may need an H13-to-H4 adapter or anti-flicker harness. Halo, DRL and turn-signal functions often use separate wires. JL/JT conversions may also require brackets or harnesses.
Why do Jeep LED headlights flicker?
Flicker often appears when the vehicle’s pulsed power signal does not work cleanly with the LED driver, or when there is a weak ground or incorrect adapter. Use the anti-flicker harness or decoder specified for the exact lamp and recheck every connection.
Are DOT-marked Jeep LED headlights legal everywhere in the United States?
No single listing sentence can guarantee legal use everywhere. U.S. replacement headlamps must meet the applicable FMVSS No. 108 requirements, and manufacturers self-certify compliance. Check the exact headlight, its marking, supporting information, installation and state or local rules.
Should I choose projector or reflector Jeep LED headlights?
Choose the lamp with the better tested beam, not the label alone. A good projector often gives a precise cutoff, while a well-engineered reflector can offer broad road coverage at a lower price. For daily driving, low-beam control and correct aim matter more than the highest lumen claim.
Can I use RGB Jeep headlights on the road?
Keep the high and low beam white. Colored halo modes are best reserved for shows or off-road display because permitted colors and use vary by location. Confirm local rules and use the approved road-lighting mode whenever you drive on public roads.
