You can launch a motorcycle light with your logo in weeks, modify a proven platform for a stronger brand position, or build a new product from the ground up. Those are three different projects. If you choose the wrong route, you may pay for tooling you do not need or end up selling the same light as everyone else.
This guide helps motorcycle parts brands, importers and distributors choose between private label, OEM customization and ODM development before asking for a quote.
Choose private label motorcycle LED lights when an existing product already fits your market and you only need your logo, labels or packaging. Choose OEM customization when you need changes to the lens, housing, wiring, DRL or lighting functions. Choose ODM when your project requires a new shape, optical system, structure or mold.
For LOYO projects, small circuit or structural changes normally start at 300 sets. RGB or new-function projects normally start at 500–1,000 sets. Samples of existing products are supplied at wholesale prices. A standard existing-product sample normally takes 1–2 weeks.

Private Label vs OEM vs ODM at a Glance
The words OEM and ODM are not used in exactly the same way by every supplier. For this guide, private label means branding a mature LOYO product, OEM customization means changing a mature product platform, and ODM development means creating a new product around your brief. Put the exact scope in the quotation and product specification. The label alone is not enough.
| Route | Choose It When | What You Receive |
|---|---|---|
| Private label | A mature product already fits the bike, market and price point you want to sell. | Your logo, label and packaging on an existing product. |
| OEM customization | The base product works, but you need a different look, connector, function or electronic setup. | A modified product built on a proven platform. |
| ODM development | Your brand needs a new shape, optical design, structure or mold that is not in the current range. | A new product developed to an approved brief and ownership agreement. |
The direct choice: If you are testing a new category, start with private label. If a product already sells but needs a clear point of difference, choose OEM customization. If the product itself must be unique, choose ODM.
Choose Private Label to Test the Market Fast
Private label is the lowest-risk route when you need a sellable SKU without paying for a new housing, lens or optical system. You choose a mature motorcycle headlight, tail light, turn signal or auxiliary light. LOYO then confirms the branding and packaging options available for that model.
Picture a distributor preparing a spring catalog. You want to add a 7-inch motorcycle headlight, but you do not yet know whether your dealers will reorder it. A standard sample lets you inspect the beam, finish, connector and packaging before you build inventory.
New Brands, New Markets and Catalog Gaps
- You need an existing product with your logo or label.
- You want custom retail packaging without changing the lamp itself.
- You need samples before committing to a larger order.
- You are comparing demand across several motorcycle applications.
Do not choose private label if design exclusivity is the reason customers will buy. Other buyers may use the same basic product. Your advantage will come from your brand, channel, service, packaging and product selection rather than an exclusive lamp design.
Choose OEM When a Proven Product Needs Your Specification
OEM customization works when the main product platform is right but one or more details are wrong for your market. You may need a different lens finish, housing color, wire length, connector, DRL color or lighting sequence. You may also need a small circuit or structural change to match your sales plan.
For example, your dealers may like the shape of an existing headlight but need an amber DRL for their local market. Or an importer may want one connector and bracket set for a specific motorcycle year range. Those projects need engineering review, sample approval and updated inspection points. They do not always need a completely new mold.
Established Sellers That Need a Clear Difference
- You already know the vehicle fitment and target retail price.
- You can order at least 300 sets for small circuit or structural changes.
- You need the product to match your brand colors, functions or installation kit.
- You want lower development risk than a ground-up product.

Before you approve OEM work, define the unchanged parts as clearly as the changed parts. The quotation should state the vehicle, years, market version, connector, functions, colors, packaging and test plan. If exclusivity matters, put the exact design, territory and term in the agreement.
Choose ODM When the Product Must Be New
ODM is the right route when no mature product can deliver your design, fitment or performance target. The project may require a new housing, lens, bracket, optical system, circuit, heat-management plan or injection mold.
This route suits a motorcycle parts brand launching a signature headlight for a new platform, not a seller looking for a quick logo change. Your team must be ready to approve drawings, prototypes, function tables, samples and test results. Changes made late in the project can affect tooling, certification and the launch date.
Brands Building a Defensible Product Line
- You need a shape or lighting signature that is not already available.
- The new product supports enough sales volume to justify tooling and validation.
- You can freeze the vehicle, market, functions and target cost before tooling.
- You have a written agreement covering mold use, design ownership and exclusivity.
A new injection mold normally takes about 45 days after the design is approved. That is only the mold stage. Optical work, engineering, prototype rounds, testing and certification happen around it. LOYO provides the full schedule after the project brief is reviewed.
MOQ, Samples, Tooling and Certification
You need concrete milestones before you plan a launch. The figures below reflect LOYO’s current project process. Your quotation should confirm the exact product, quantity, packaging and target market.
| Project Item | LOYO Reference | What It Means for You |
|---|---|---|
| Existing-product sample | Normally 1–2 weeks | Use it to check fitment, functions, finish and light output before branding or bulk production. |
| Small circuit or structural change | MOQ normally starts at 300 sets | Suitable for a proven platform that needs a defined product change. |
| RGB or new-function project | MOQ normally starts at 500–1,000 sets | Use this route when the electronics or feature set creates more development work. |
| New injection mold | About 45 days after design approval | This covers the mold stage, not the full ODM project. |
| DOT testing and documents | About 1 month | Timing begins after a suitable sample and the required documents are ready. |
| E-Mark testing and documents | About 2 months | Timing begins after a suitable sample and the required documents are ready. |
Private-label MOQ is confirmed by model and packaging. A printed color box can have a different practical minimum from a product label. Full ODM MOQ, tooling cost and bulk-production time are quoted after the design and certification scope are clear.
Does a Product Change Affect DOT or E-Mark?
A logo on the carton is not the same as a change to the lamp. Changes to the lens, beam, light color, power, electronics or required functions can affect test results and documents. Confirm the exact model and market before production. Selected LOYO products have DOT, E-Mark, CE, CCC or RoHS documents as applicable; certification is checked for the exact SKU, not for the whole catalog.
What Can You Customize?
Start with the reason for the change. A dealer may need easier installation. A premium brand may need a signature DRL. A distributor may need packaging that works in several languages. Each goal points to a different scope.
| Area | Common Options |
|---|---|
| Branding | Product label, logo placement, manual, barcode and retail carton. |
| Appearance | Lens finish, housing finish, trim color and lighting signature. |
| Fitment | Bracket, mounting points, connector, wire length and installation parts. |
| Functions | High beam, low beam, DRL, turn signal, position light, brake light or RGB features where the platform supports them. |
| Electronics | Voltage range, circuit changes, power settings and vehicle-specific electronic adaptation. |
| New development | Industrial design, optical design, heat management, structure, prototypes, mold and validation. |
The final specification should list every function and wire. Do not approve a sample from appearance alone. Test the light on the target motorcycle and confirm high beam, low beam, DRL, turn signal, indicator behavior, connector lock, mounting clearance and any dashboard warning.
Start With the Right Motorcycle Product Platform
If an existing platform already covers your vehicle, you can reduce risk and move faster. Review the product family first, then send the exact motorcycle model, year, market and original light photos for fitment confirmation.

Private Label, OEM and ODM Buyer Questions
What is the difference between private label, OEM and ODM motorcycle lights?
Private label uses an existing product with your branding and packaging. OEM customization changes a mature product platform to your specification. ODM development creates a new product that may need new optics, structure, electronics and tooling.
What is the MOQ for custom motorcycle LED lights?
At LOYO, small circuit or structural changes normally start at 300 sets. RGB or new-function projects normally start at 500–1,000 sets. Private-label and full ODM quantities depend on the selected product, packaging and development scope.
How long does a motorcycle LED light sample take?
A standard sample from an existing LOYO product normally takes 1–2 weeks. A custom sample takes longer because drawings, parts, functions and prototype rounds must be approved first.
Can I put my logo and packaging on an existing motorcycle light?
Yes, many mature products can support a product label, logo, manual, barcode or custom carton. The available method and order quantity are confirmed for the exact product and packaging.
Does changing a motorcycle light require new DOT or E-Mark testing?
It can. Packaging and brand-label changes are different from changes to the lens, beam, light color, power, electronics or required functions. LOYO checks the exact change and target market before confirming whether new testing or updated documents are needed.
How long do DOT and E-Mark testing take?
LOYO’s working reference is about one month for DOT testing and documents and about two months for E-Mark testing and documents. Timing starts after a suitable sample and the required project documents are ready.
Who owns the mold and design in an ODM project?
Ownership and use rights must be written into the quotation or contract. Confirm who pays for the mold, where it stays, who may use it, whether the design is exclusive, the covered territory and the length of that exclusivity.
